peace efforts

Ukraine is preparing for a new round of peace talks in October following a three-day ceasefire that allowed US envoys to shuttle between Moscow and Kyiv. The EU has backed the process with representatives in Kyiv and a new proposal to transfer frozen Russian assets to Ukraine, potentially giving Europe leverage in the negotiations.

US envoys Witkoff and Kushner arrived in Kyiv on 6 September after a three-hour meeting with Putin in Moscow, carrying a peace proposal from President Trump. A three-day ceasefire is in effect as EU representatives join the talks in the Ukrainian capital.

US envoys met Putin in Moscow on Sept 5, then arrived in Kyiv Sept 6 to revive stalled Ukraine peace talks. The EU says it remains in constant coordination with Washington.
